Frequently asked questions
What can I put in the wormery?
Worms love most things, from tea bags to egg shells and cardboard to vegetables. However, you should avoid meat and dairy as the worms can't process it fast enough, which may attract flies.
Does it smell?
Unlike many other types of composting, one key benefit of worm composting is that it is odour free!
Does it attract pests?
The wormery is a closed system, so you won't get any bother from pests eg rats, foxes, that can be annoying with other types of composting
How do I harvest the compost?
After a few months, you will have dark black compost ready to go. To separate the worms, simply put food into the (empty) top tray, the worms will wriggle up to the new food, and you will have compost left behind, without worms!
How do I use the fertiliser?
Dilute it 10:1 with water and spread it on your plants, either house plants or in the garden - they will thank you for it!
